Pancake racers nifty with a frying pan are invited to enter this year’s Horsham Charity Pancake Race.

All local Horsham businesses, charities and other organisations are invited to enter teams, preferably in fancy dress, to compete in the town’s Carfax at lunchtime on February 16. The race is not being held on Shrove Tuesday February 9, but instead on the Tuesday of the half term school break.

Horsham Rotary Club, in partnership with Horsham District Council, is organising the event to raise money for local charities.

Organisers are seeking businesses and organisations to enter teams of four for the 80-metre relay race, using their own frying pan and non-slip shoes.

The course is designed to encourage a sensible mix of skill and speed.  Cups and prizes awarded to winners on the day include team fancy dress, Over 40’s team, winning charity team, individual fancy dress, best pancake flipper and overall winning team.

Local road maintenance company Ringway is the main sponsor and will organise the race course and signage, as well as sponsoring mascot race prizes.

The Sainsbury’s store is supplying pancakes and sponsoring the main trophy, with other trophies being sponsored by Waitrose, the Non-Stop Party Shop, Rawlison Butler, South East Hearing Centres and Horsham Rotary Club.

Last year’s winning team was a newcomer to the competition, Santander Bank.

The British Heart Foundation, Chestnut Tree House,  the Dame Vera Lynn Trust, St Catherine’s Hospice, Set4Success, QE2 School and Horsham Community Responders  all received  money from the event as a result of being nominated by winning teams or  being the most nominated charities of the competitors.

Entry forms and further information can be obtained by emailing horshamrotary@btconnect.com. The final date for entries is February 5, and organisers say they will be accepted on a strictly first-come first-served basis.
